We just learned a tragedy occurred at the Tyler Perry studio complex in Atlanta. A four alarm fire broke out at the facility which took over 100 firefighters and at least 20 trucks to put out. Reports say it took over an hour to control the flames that started around 8:40 p.m.
Atlanta Fire Department Capt. J. L. Bundrige says there were no injuries reported. The 200,000 square feet studio has five sound stages, a post-production facility, a back lot, a 400-seat theater, a private screening room and designated areas for entertaining and hosting events.
It’s unknown if the fire will affect any productions, as there appears to be damage to only two buildings at the facility. Eyewitnesses say they saw the fire but thought it was part of a film production, until they saw emergency vehicles headed to the blaze.
Tyler Perry was on the scene but has made no comment on the fire thus far. The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation. We hope Tyler didn’t lose too much in the fire and that he’ll be able to recover from any loses.
The fire comes just months after Perry made headlines for accusing a white Atlanta police officer of racially profiling him after a traffic stop.

As the cause of the fire at Tyler Perry Studios is still under investigation, some are speculating that it may have been an act of vandalism. While there are no solid reports that any bombing or foul play is suspected by authorities, an eye witness’ account of what he saw and heard on that evening may make you raise an eyebrow. In regard to the incident, a rep for Perry released the following statement on his behalf:
“Atlanta firefighters responded immediately to a fire which damaged the backlot façade of one of the buildings at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. We are grateful that there were no injuries, and that 99 percent of the damage is limited to the backlot facade. Mr. Perry wishes to express his heartfelt thanks to the Atlanta fire department for their professionalism in their quick response and limiting the damage.”
