Classically trained, formally educated musician Syreeta Thompson is the only female trumpeter in Gospel music and she is on a mission to now only continue breaking musical barriers but to equip the next generation to do the same.
With a new single, “Change Is on the Way”, available now on all digital outlets, Syreeta is donating her time to enrich the learning experiences of aspiring musicians through master classes and workshops. Recent events include a Master Class for the Berklee College of Music’s City Music Summit, and a guest clinician for the Richmond Public School System.
Additionally, Syreeta is making appearances to support her single and just returned from her hometown of Chicago where she appeared at TriedStone Full Gospel Baptist Church and New Vision of Victory International Ministries. This Sunday, January 31, she appears in Newark, New Jersey at Jehovah Jireh Ministries.
“Change is on the Way” features stirring vocals from the Love Fellowship Church Praise Team. The single is available on all digital outlets. “Changes Is on the Way” is a rousing Sunday morning song that showcases the impressive prowess of Thompson, who counts Wynton Marsalis and Terrance Blanchard as mentors.
Thompson also serves as Arts Education Director for Dorinda Clark Cole’s National Singers and Musicians Conference. “The one and only Syreeta Thompson can wear a trumpet all the way out,” says Clark Cole.
Syreeta Thompson is Instrumental Music Departmental Chair for Middle School at the Cicely Tyson School for the Performing Arts in East Orange, New Jersey. She has held this position for eight years while simultaneously continuing to make appearances and compose music of her own.
