Shirley Caesar, Dottie Peoples & MORE Featured on the Soundtrack of “Greenleaf”

greenleafA gospel companion soundtrack to OWN’s new drama series, Greenleaf, is slated to be released on August 26, in conjunction with global entertainment company Lionsgate.

Titled Greenleaf – The Gospel Companion Soundtrack Volume 1, the album will be comprised of 14 tracks, with music featuring legendary gospel stars such as Deborah Joy WinansMavis Staples,Pastor Shirley Caesar, Dottie Peoples and The McCrary Sisters. Winans is also one of the cast members of the show, playing the character of Charity Greenleaf-Satterlee, the daughter of Bishop James Greenleaf, portrayed by actor Keith David.

Winans, who is a member of the famed Winans gospel music family, was particularly excited to be a part of the show’s soundtrack.

This was my first time recording a song and what a musical ride it has been! Growing up in a family of natural-born singers certainly came in handy when I took on this incredible role,” she said.

Greenleaf portrays the scandalous world of the Greenleaf family and their Memphis, Tennessee, megachurch. Executive produced in part by Oprah Winfrey, the show has become the number-one series to debut in OWN history, having garnered over three million viewers.
