Chicago, IL — It was during the last weekend of September 2010, Albertina Walker, hailed as the “Queen of Gospel”, and founder of the Caravans would celebrate her last earthly birthday. It was on Sunday, August 29th, Queen Albertina was admitted to a local Chicago Hospital, and placed on a ventilator. For some time she had been battling emphysema. A few weeks later, she had a surgical procedure for a tracheostomy, where doctors said it was a success. A short time after that, she was released from the ICU and placed in a specialty hospital to help with her recovery. Shortly after her arrival, she was hit it pneumonia.
On Friday morning, October 8, 2010 at 4:30am, with her granddaughter, Tina Walker sitting by her bedside holding her hand, Queen Albertina, 81, was called home to rest with the Lord.
For the Walker Family, her close friends, associates, the Gospel Community and the world, this is a monumental loss.
Dr. Bobby Jones, “Not only was she a tremendous artist but she was one of my dearest friends who I will miss greatly and I am grieving of her homegoing. Regardless of what I did or where I was, she was an avid supporter of everything I did. Her personality was so strong, that most singers of today recognized her as the “Queen of Gospel” meaning that she stood tall, and she exhibited the love of Jesus in all that she did, which made her a queen.”
