New Artist & “Speechless” Singer Anita Wilson Earns Three 2013 Stellar Award Nominations

Anita Wilson has had a whirlwind year.  With the release of her EMI Gospel debut project, Worship Soul, the gifted singer has hardly been able to catch her breath.  The lead single from the release, “Speechless”, captivated the hearts of radio listeners nationwide propelling the song to the Top Ten on the Billboard charts.  The first single was followed by a riveting and contemporary rendition of a Rev. James Cleveland remake, “Jesus Will”, a song also soaring up the charts.

Now the singer has been nominated for three 2013 Stellar Awards.  The most coveted award in gospel music, Anita received nominations for Contemporary Female of the Year, Praise & Worship CD of the Year (for Worship Soul) and Urban Inspirational Single or Performance of the Year (for “Speechless”).

The artist’s first award nominations leave the singer, well, almost speechless.  She says, “I am so humbled to be a new artist nominated for Stellar Awards among so many amazing artists including my mentor Donald Lawrence.”  The 28th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, TN.

The blessings keep flowing for the soulful singer as she has been tapped for to open for the GRAMMY Award Winning Duo Mary Mary.  Anita will be joining the sisters on their 2012 Go Get It Tour in Merrillville, IN on Saturday, November 10th and in Rochester, NY, on Sunday, November 11th.  “I’m a long time fan and supporter of Mary Mary so to have the privilege to be included on this tour is overwhelming!” says Wilson.  “I would have never imagined such an incredible opportunity but I’m so humbled and grateful!”  Tickets for the dates can be purchased at

Many are familiar with Anita’s memorable vocals as a member of Donald Lawrence’s Company, specifically on the song, “Happy Being Me” from The Law of Confession CD.  Prior to breaking out as a solo artist, her inimitable style put her in high demand as a background singer for gospel greats such as Hezekiah Walker, Marvin Sapp, DeWayne Woods and Vanessa Bell Armstrong.

Growing up in East St. Louis, the songstress began singing at the age of five.  A “PK”, preacher’s kid, Anita practically grew up between the pews of her father’s church.  As she developed her singing style, she merged gospel with jazz and R&B influences from artists such as Sarah Vaughn, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder.  Taking the passion of worship and mixing it with a heart of soul, Anita Wilson has created a style all her own.  For more information about Anita Wilson, log on to
