Jekalyn Carr continues to hold her own among the best and brightest in Gospel Music. Whether she is sharing the stage with legends in the genre, sharing radio airtime amidst the most popular songs, or successfully contending for, and holding, chart positions surrounded by the leaders in the industry, Carr has proven, time and time again, that she brings something unique and relevant to the culture, and that she belongs in the company that she’s keeping.
Carr is one of the many Gospel luminaries that appear on the highly anticipated musical soundtrack, inspired by the hit OWN television series, “Greenleaf.” Greenleaf Soundtrack – Season 2 (Provident Label Group/RCA Inspiration/Lions Gate) is available for pre-order now, and is scheduled for wide release on September 8th, wherever Gospel music is sold. Joining Carr on the soundtrack are Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, LeAndria Johnson, Mavis Staples, and many more, including one of the show’s breakout stars, and Gospel music heiress, Deborah Joy Winans.
Carr’s contribution to the soundtrack is a stunning original song, and a clear project highlight, titled “Hold Me Close.” On “Hold Me Close,” Carr delivers another signature impassioned and soul-stirring vocal performance and musical exhortation, for which she has become known and celebrated. The song was produced by Carr’s father, award winning songwriter and producer, Allen Carr.
In addition to being featured on the soundtrack, Carr is also slated to make a guest appearance on the show itself. In an upcoming episode during Season 2, which just began with a riveting two night premiere, Carr will make her series debut, playing herself, and encouraging several members of the show’s cast of characters. The episode that will feature Carr is scheduled to air on Wednesday, September 13th, on OWN.
Carr is also enjoying the early success of her brand new single, “You Will Win,” from the forthcoming full-length live project of the same name. “You Will Win” is a prophetic anthem of victory that has already begun resonating with believers across the country. Last week, “You Will Win” was the second most added song at Gospel radio and the second most increased airplay recipient. This week, the single is the second most added song, again, and has now entered the BDS Gospel Airplay chart at #30, with a bullet, after just four weeks of servicing and monitoring. All indications, and early response to the single, is that “You Will Win” will be another career-defining song for Carr, and another declaration of faith for believers everywhere.
“You Will Win” will be available digitally, wherever Gospel music is sold, on Friday, September 15th.
