Interview: Canton Jones Talks New Projects, Christian Hip-Hop, Upcoming Book and Much More

cajo red sweater5

Here’s an interview with Christian Hip-Hop Pioneer Canton Jones, in which he talks about all his current projects and keeps it real about the never ending debate on Rap in Gospel. I wasn’t at all surprised by Canton’s response to how he feels about the current state of Christian Hip-Hip, as he reveals that he’s tired of ‘defending’ it.

Canton talks about a lot of things during our chat including his performance at the Stellar Awards last year, LeCrae’s Grammy win, collaborating with his peers and so much more. Check out our conversation to hear all that this wise man of God has to say!

  4. Christian Rap or Gospel Rap Artists!!!:)

Canton Jones spoke very well about Christian Rap or Gospel Rap! I agree that it is about the message and not the overall “sound”. However, I do think when choosing the sound Gospel Artists should not “intentionally” take secular musical beats and “remix” them into their Gospel songs. Many Gospel artists are not aware that those secular tunes have been offerings to Satan in order to sell records. As with the case of Angie Stone, God is able to provide a “NEW SOUND” to any Gospel artists trying to convey His message. In addition, CHRISTian Rappers should not include the term “hip hop” within their title or give credence to the genre. Hip Hop has its principles placed on concepts “outside” of God’s Word. Thus, how can a Christian be affiliated with that genre. Hip Hop does NOT own “speaking”; God gave every person a voice box (larynx). Therefore, Hip Hop does not own the rights on speaking with a beat in the background (LOL)! Gospel Rappers should be “ministering” TO the Hip Hop genre the profound indisputable TRUTH of Christ, Jesus.
May God continue to bless Canton Jones’ (CAJO:)music and pastoral ministry!

    Peace & Grace?

Its about the anointing not so much the message. The Holy Spirit only speaks of Jesus so the message is a given when God is in control. Many have the message and not the anointing. Canton Jones’ music brings you into true worship! Yokes are destroyed because God has anointed him. PERIOD
