Gun-Toting Choir Member Arrested At Rehearsal

According to ABC News 13, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call last Wednesday, September 7, 2011 around 9:30 p.m. about an armed man at the Wheat Creek Baptist Church in Mill Spring, North Carolina. A witness identified the person with the gun as being Daniel Earl Logan of Pea Ridge Road.

Apparently, while attending choir practice, Logan got involved in an altercation with the pastor. Deputies say the altercation stemmed from Logan not liking the songs members were singing. Logan left practice, got a handgun from his car and returned to the building. Acknowledging the handgun, a choir member made the call to 911 in fear of her pastor being shot by Logan. However, before authorities could arrive to the scene, Logan ran out the back door.

Approximately 5 minutes into the search authorities located Logan lying in a wooded area behind the church. Logan was arrested without incident and transported to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Polk County Sheriff’s Deputies charged Logan with possession of a firearm by a felon, disrupting a religious service and resisting a public officer.

Members of the church say they are shocked by Logan’s actions. They believe he is a good man who is battling an alcohol addiction. Deputies say Logan was under the influence of alcohol during the incident.
