Fred Hammond Defends New Reality Show, “Preachers of L.A.”

fred-hammond-400_0After the premiere of Oxygen’s “Preachers of L.A.” last week, many people have spoken out against the show, including world renowned Bishop T.D. Jakes. However, in defense of the show, Gospel Singer Fred Hammond took to Twitter to share his opinion. See what he had to say below:

I heard an interesting observation that’s extremely true. Because Soooo many ppl are up in arms about this tv show. Great point @TWH_PhD I wonder how many ppl who watched #PreachersOfLA & displeased with it, will be watch’n & celebrating Scandal 2night?

When I was in commissioned I almost gave up because I felt like my issues were to much. But a really great pastor took the time and care to be transparent & showed me his faults, struggles. I woulda never thought he had stuff. He didn’t glory in it but his transparency brought Christ closer. For a minute his humanity stood in front of his divinity & I needed that. He said Fred if I can make it you can. From that point I felt the faith & courage to press on, went on to write the Spirit of David. And The project after that produced a song called “please don’t pass me by.” All BC he blessed me with an insight of his press.

Music has been my reality show. My songs came from real episodes in my life, like “running back to You”. What if I was to ashamed to share? The game is stepping up family from audio to film. The folks that’s already saved and got they stuff together have no real need of POLA. But these are the last days & GOD is going after some hard core lost souls. And He will use what ever method He chooses to get them.

Thanks Fred for reminding us that many of us “Christians” have and do, go all out to ensure that we do not miss ‘one second’ of Scandal, which I do not believe promotes the “gospel”, rather the height of sin! Last, POLA has & will promote a conversation: let’s see if Christendom is prepared for the conversation, moreover for witnessing!

I watched the show and was displeased with it myself. I felt that it gave off the wrong message. I also don’t care for the show that shows the wives of the Pastors either. In today’s never ending battle with satan we need to have an image that draw people to the church not keep them away from it.

I watched the show and am just not sure what the message is behind the images. As an elder and man of faith, I realize that preachers, pastors, apostles etc. did not fall from heaven but something about the show does not fit right with my spirit. If it brings someone closer to knowing God and having a closer walk with hin…good. I just don’t think I’ll be watching any more episodes.

I watched the first two episodes of Preachers of LA, and I’ve read Mr. Hammonds response. I agree with Mr. Hammond to the degree that I believe there is an arena for being transparent. Television isn’t that arena. I believe that wisdom should be used in sharing certain personal information. The opulence that is displayed is offensive, Yes God blesses his people, however, is this the example that Christ gives us to follow? I haven’t witnessed any content that would cause anyone to want to follow Christ except to gain this world’s treasures where moth and rust does corrupt and where thieves break through and steal.

Preachers of LA. Is a real life testimony show in progress. Yes, people are talking, but people are also seeking God. Asking real life questions. D. Haddy, has made his life an open book. The other pastors are showing what is going on behind the scenes of ministry. They are reaching out to people. To show love, and give love. I love the realness of this show. I see that they are doing the right thing. To get people to know about the true fellowship of brotherhood, and the trails of preachers. Plus the Fun and the Victory in Jesus Christ.
