The dynamic rising star, Tiya Askia, is making things happen quick, fast and in a hurry. The Washington, D.C. – based singer’s new three-track digital EP, “Hear Our Cry,” has been selling briskly off of word of mouth excitement and, as a result, it hasdebuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot Singles sales chart.“I’m really excited about where God is taking this project and my ministry at this point in life,” says Askia. “I’m overwhelmed by the support of my church, my friends, and my family in the DC area and beyond for their support of this new chapter in my life.”
This three-track EP is a dream album for worship leaders everywhere. The title track, “Hear Our Cry,” sets the tone for the project and channels Askia’s heart and worship style. “Defender,” takes the worship to another level with a neo-soul flavored song about perseverance and divine faith. The melodic radio single, “That Name,” is currently impacting radio and it showcases Askia’s sweet, high-pitched croon.
Although, she’s young, Askia has accomplished much in her burgeoning career as an artist. Recently, Tiya toured Sweden with the play, “Keep the Dream Alive – A Gospel Story.” In 2015, she was awarded the Honorable Mention Award in the UNSIGNED ONLY music competition, and was chosen winner for the 2016 Byron Cage Gospel Festival. Tiya is also a member of Stellar Award Nominated Charles Butler’s group Trinity.
Askia is scheduled to tour the country this summer to promote “Hear, Our Cry” as she prepares for her first live recording which is expected to take place in the fall of 2017.
