Charles Jenkins and Fellowship Chicago Nab Eight Stellar Gospel Music Award Nominations

Inspired People/EMI Gospel recording artists Charles Jenkins and Fellowship Chicago receive eight Stellar Gospel Music Award nominations for their critically-acclaimed #1 debut CD, The Best of Both Worlds, which remained at #1 for three consecutive weeks. The nominations include Artist of the Year, Song of the Year (awarded to songwriter), New Artist of the Year, CD of the Year, Choir of the Year, Traditional CD of the Year, Traditional Choir of the Year and Recorded Music Package of the Year. Jenkins and Fellowship Chicago are scheduled to perform on the 28th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, TN.

This week, The Best of Both Worlds moves up to #11 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart. The CD is the highest debut for a new artist in 2012 and the 10th best-selling gospel album for an artist in 2012.

Jenkins, a GRAMMY® Award-winning songwriter, penned the #1 praise and worship anthem “Awesome,” which has remained at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart for 15 weeks. “When our team and I put this record together, we were not thinking about awards or charts—just people singing to and about God,” says Jenkins. “It is amazing to be considered a nominee for an honor we were not anticipating, while carrying the torch of the impeccable musical legacy of our founder Rev. Clay Evans, Fellowship, and our city, the gospel capital of the world—Chicago.”  The single remains at #1 in listening audience at gospel radio. “Awesome” is the third best-selling digital gospel song of 2012.

On November 20, Inspired People/EMI Gospel will release The Best of Both Worlds DVD.  The DVD project is a powerful Sunday Morning worship experience, which includes performance selections of 11 songs featured on the CD. The DVD also features b-roll footage; along with a spoken word performance by Jenkins titled “The Best of Both Worlds.” In addition, the DVD includes interview segments and footage of Jenkins and others sharing stories about the legendary Chicago Fellowship Baptist Church history and its rich musical legacy.  In addition, the digital version of The Best of Both Worlds Deluxe Edition will also be available on November 20. The DVD was recorded at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, IL.

The Best of Both Worlds, which was released on Jenkins’ newly formed independent label, Inspired People, is the first #1 debut by a new artist this year. In May 2012, Jenkins’ label signed an exclusive worldwide distribution agreement with EMI Gospel.
