Chanel Haynes teams up once again with longtime friend and Maroon5 band member PJ Morton to create a dynamic new track for her forthcoming CD, ‘Trin-i-tee 5:7 According To Chanel.’ The track, “Repay,” is penned and produced by Morton with Chanel on lead vocals.
“PJ and I are childhood friends, and we grew up in the church together with both of our parents being pastors in New Orleans,” said Chanel. “Our careers eventually led us to amazing success (PJ with Maroon 5 and me with Trin-i-tee 5:7.) A few years ago, PJ wrote the most beautiful song for T57 called ‘Over and Over.’ When it was time for me to record a life-changing single for my first solo album, I could think of no one else but my dear friend from NOLA.”
Chanel decided to call Morton to see if he was available and open to the task. As they say, the rest was history.
“I called PJ up on a Friday night and asked hey what are you doing? I’m in town! Are you in town? I NEED you to write me an incredibly anointed song. Can you do it?” Chanel recalled. “He told me his wife was out of town, and he had all the kids and no time to get a babysitter. I said ‘you just found one… ME. Bring them all to the studio, and I will play with them while you create a masterpiece.’”
“Repay” shipped to radio this week and is already having an impact at Gospel radio stations across the country.

It features the signature contemporary Gospel/Urban sound of Trin-i-tee 5:7 fans have loved over the years, but now with a blossoming Chanel on all lead vocals as a solo artist, reflecting her unique sound and musical creativity. The CD, produced by Chanel, Darion Dorsey and PJ Morton, is released on her newly formed label, Obsidian Records and is distributed in partnership with Central South Distribution.
