Bishop T.D. Jakes and Shirley Caesar to Headline “LEAD LIKE KING” Virtual Awards & Scholarship Drive

In celebration of MLK Day, Jakes Divinity School will partner with the Urban Renewal Center of Norfolk to host the Lead Like King Virtual Awards and Scholarship Drive on Monday, January 18, 2021. Special guests will include Ambassador Andrew Young, Bishop T.D. Jakes, the Queen of Gospel Shirley Caesar, Alex Harris and more. Proceeds will good toward the LLK Scholarship Drive at Jakes Divinity School and toward outreach opportunities at the Urban Renewal Center.

Because of the unprecedented dynamics related to the global pandemic, this year’s Lead Like King Virtual Awards and Scholarship Drive substitutes the Urban Renewal Center’s popular Lead Like King Gala. The virtual event will commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy of service to the church and society. King’s focus on social justice and racial harmony captures the vision for the Urban Renewal Center “to awaken society to its promised wholeness.” A trained theologian, King’s public theology captures the vision for Jakes Divinity School “to form leaders for innovative ministry in the church and society.”

The virtual event will consist of the awards ceremony, live entertainment, inspiring words from legends of public faith during the Civil Rights Era and others, and an awards ceremony.
