Sad News: Lengendary Gospel Singer Inez Andrews Passes Away at Age 83
The entire Gospel industry is saddened by the death of iconic singer Inez Andrews of the legendary group, The Caravans. Although an official statement has yet to be released for the cause of Andrews’ death, sources say it may be Cancer related.
Martinez passed away on Wednesday, December 19th at her home on the South Side of Chicago. She was scheduled to be honored with the Ambassador Bobby Jones Legend Award at the 28th Annual Stellars Awards next month in Nashville.
“The golden age of gospel was from 1945 to 1960,” said New York-based gospel author and record producer Anthony Heilbut, who spoke with Mrs. Andrews a few hours before her death. “Inez was the last one to make a name for herself in that era. Her style was unprecedented. She had this immense range, hitting top notes which most singers hit in falsetto.”
“She was a preacher, she was an actress. Shirley Caesar used to say Inez could ‘shout the people preaching flatfooted. She had a lot of showmanship.”
Funeral arrangements for the late singer are still pending. The staff at uGospel.com send our condolences to all of Inez Andrews’ family, friends, fans and loved ones.
