Matthew Knowles and Music World Gospel invited uGospel.com to an exclusive television taping for a TBN Christmas Concert Special. The concert featured performances by Grammy Award-Nominated Gospel Group, Trin-i-tee 5:7, BET’s Sunday Best Season 3 Winner/Grammy Award-Nominated Gospel Singer, Le’Andria Johnson and BET’s Sunday Best Season 4 Winner/Gospel Songstress, Amber Bullock. The concert took place November 29, 2011 at the Trinity Broadcasting Network in New York City.
As the show kicked off, Trin-t-tee 5:7 was welcomed to the stage with a standing ovation from the audience. They thanked everyone for coming to the show and introduced the night’s roster of performers. The first song they sang was an up-tempo version of “Joy to the World”. The audience sang along with the ladies and stood to their feet for the entire selection. They followed with another Christmas classic, “Winter Wonderland”. Trin-t-tee 5:7 effortlessly showed off their singing talents as they put their personal touch on each song. The crowd applauded as the ladies introduced the next performer, Le’Andria Johnson.
Le’Andria slowed down the pace of the concert by pouring her heart into a ballad, showing us why she won Season 3 of Sunday Best. She followed up with another ballad, causing the audience to stand on our feet mid-performance. Then Le’Andria sped it up with an up-tempo song of her own, which had the audience dancing as they received her. After the three songs, Trin-i-tee 5:7 came back out to give Le’Andria a short interview. She ministered through her answers, giving positive, upifting responses to their questions.
Le’Andria left the stage as Trin-i-tee 5:7 prepared for another performance. This time they performed two more Christmas favorites, “Oh Holy Night” and “This Christmas”. The crowd cheerfully sang along with the ladies as they belted out both songs back to back. After their performance, Trin-t-tee 5:7 interacted with the crowd, sharing some of their favorite Christmas memories. As New Orleans natives, they briefly touched on their emotional first Christmas after Hurricane Katrina. After reflecting on their past, they welcomed Le’Andria back to the stage and introduced us to Amber.
Le’Andria and Amber performed a duet of Silent Night, showcasing their unique vocal talents. Their voices complimented each other during the performance. The audience stood to their feet as we enjoyed this rare experience. Next, Le’Andria left the stage for Amber to give a solo performance. She sung a powerful ballad that brought the audience to our feet, praising the songstress. The crowd watched and applauded as Amber delivered every riff and run with angelic stability.
Trin-i-tee 5:7 came back out for an interview with Amber before she performed another duet with Le’Andria. This time the ladies sang “Now Behold the Lamb”, much to the audiences delight. Everyone in the building felt the emotion that both women put into their performance of the song.
Trin-i-tee 5:7 came back out and interviewed both ladies together. During the interview, one of the ladies mentioned she felt like the Golden Girls when reflecting on enjoying “onesie” pajamas. This caused an impromptu performance of the Golden Girls theme song by all four ladies. The crowd laughed along with the ladies throughout this playful moment.
Finally, all four ladies, Trin-i-tee 5:7, Le’Andria and Amber, performed a song together. They did an up-tempo version of “Wish You a Merry Christmas”, going back and forth through each verse of the song. They all sang in unison, as their voices fit perfectly together. The crowd continuously applauded and remained on our feet throughout the song.
The show ended with Trin-i-tee 5:7 performing a few more classic Christmas songs. The ladies encouraged the audience to sing along with them, to which we complied. After they finished, Amber came back out to perform songs off her new album. She did an amazing set featuring her new material from her upcoming album, Thank You. After Amber’s performance, Le’Andria did the same thing. She blew the crowd away with heart-filled performances of songs off her debut album, The Awakening of Le’Andria Johnson. Both ladies proved to be powerhouses in Gospel’s new generation of singers. The sky is the limit for both of these ladies’ careers in the Gospel Music Industry.
The show was the best holiday gift I could have ever asked for. The ladies, all very talented, were as equally entertaining. There was never a dull moment when the ladies were on stage. Their vocal talent is equally matched with their stage presence. They made sure we felt welcomed and showed their appreciation for our presence. I enjoyed the show and look forward to seeing the ladies perform again.
