Dr. James S. Hall, Jr. Pastoral Anniversary Concert at Triumph Baptist Church in Philadelphia
Rev. Dr. James S. Hall Jr., lives a life dedicated to his Faith and the advancement of God’s Kingdom. Rev. Hall spent the last six decades serving in ministry and 42 of those years as Pastor of Triumph Baptist Church in Philadelphia.
To honor their pastor for his long tenure serving in ministry, Triumph Baptist Church had a week-long anniversary celebration. The events took place from Sunday, November 13, 2011 until Sunday, November 20, 2012. A host of nationally-known ministers attended the celebration, including Rev. Jessie Jackson, to show their appreciation for Dr. Hall.
A highlight of Dr. Hall’s Pastoral Anniversary Celebration was the special concert held on November 18, 2011 at Triumph Baptist Church. Gospel Recording Artist, Tamika Patton hosted the event which featured special performances from: Radio Host and Gospel Recording Artist, Lonnie Hunter featuring Structure, Gospel Recording Artist, James Fortune & FIYA and Legendary Gospel Songstress, Dorothy Norwood.
The show began with Saxophonist/Gospel Recording Artist, Don Ward and his band warming up the crowd. His music got the audience on their feet and ready to praise. He performed a few church favorites, before blessing the audience with his single, “You’re Worthy” from his Grammy award-nominated album, Broken.
Triumph Baptist Church’s home choir, Triumph B.C. Mass Choir, continued to minister through music with their version of “You Are Everything”. The choir kept the high-energy going with another upbeat song before switching the pace. Next, they performed “He’s Done Enough”, but the audience applauded before the soloist even made her way to the mic. I knew she was going to blow us away by the crowd’s standing ovation for her, and she did just that! Even Lonnie Hunter complimented her on her performance during his set!
The evening’s host, Tamika Patton, took to the stage welcoming everyone to the event. She invited the Saints to worship in the aisles if necessary, because the night was a celebration. She performed “We Have a Victory” in honor of it being a “Victory” concert for Dr. Hall.
Lonnie Hunter and Structure opened their set with “I’m Back”, a single from his Stellar award-nominated project, I’m Back. Next, Mona, a member of Structure, led the choir with a powerful performance, causing the church to fill with worship. They ended their set with another upbeat song that left the audience on their feet, wanting more.
Next, everyone present at Triumph Baptist Church welcomed Dr. Hall, the evening’s honoree, to the stage. He gave a speech reflecting on his life, ministry and accomplishments. Dr. Hall showed us all his appreciation for being honored by his church, family, friends and loved ones. Tamika returned to the stage to perform “God Favored Me”, in honor of the pastor.
James Fortune & FIYA delivered an anointed performance to the audience. The members of FIYA blew the crowd away with their vocal talents, as James Fortune ministered. They performed a collection of inspirational songs, encouraging the audience to worship our God. The group ended their set with their radio-hit song, “I Believe.”
Then, Radio One’s Praise Philly 103.9’s On-Air Personality, Kala, assisted Tamika Patton with announcing the winner of the Flat Screen TV Giveaway Contest. The winner was announced, and thankfully collected his prize.
Ending the show was Gospel Legendary Singer, Dorothy Norwood. She was like a breath of fresh air, as she ministered to the audience. Ms. Norwood stated that contrary to popular belief, Traditional Gospel Music is not dead. She proved this by performing a collection of Traditional Gospel fan-favorite songs, much to the attendees delight. Everyone sang with her as she performed everything from “Shake the Devil Off” to “Victory is Mine”. She also ministered about the importance of “praising in advance” for the things the Lord has yet to do for you.
The concert was an uplifting, inspirational experience. I was honored to be part of the celebration for such a deserving man of ministry as Rev. Dr. James S. Hall Jr.
