After a stint on BET’s gospel music competition “Sunday Best,” singer/actor David Michael was eliminated from the show’s sixth season after several rounds of competition Sunday evening. “Being in the series’ top eight was an unforgettable experience to say the least,” David Michael said, “I think Sunday Best is a great platform. I consider myself privileged to even stand on that stage with some of these amazing artists.”

Sunday’s show aired the elimination round after contestant performances and appearances by popular gospel artists Vashawn Mitchell, Tasha Cobbs, James Fortune, Kierra Sheard, and Zacardi Cortez. After the show, David Michael took to Facebook, Instagram and twitter to thank his rapidly expanding following:

I pray your support doesn’t stop here…I promise this is JUST the beginning. I appreciate Donnie McClurkin, Cece Winans, and Yolanda Adams for the critiques. These things will make me stronger as a person and as an artist. Their advice has already helped shape my life and career. Nooow LET’S GO! #teamdavidmichael

David Michael is currently accepting engagements and has already been invited to appear in various ministry events and stage productions in and out of the country – including an upcoming tribute to Michelle Williams, former member of the smash R&B trio Destiny’s Child. Performance singles of his final two “Sunday Best” appearances, “A Sinner’s Prayer” (made popular by Dietrick Haddon) and “Oh How Wondrous” (John P. Kee), are available on iTunes. David Michael is the worship leader and vocal music director at St. John’s United Methodist Church in downtown Houston, Rudy Rasmus, pastor.

About David Michael:

Greatness has always been a part of David Michael’s destiny. The world experienced his gift on season six of BET’s hit gospel music competition, Sunday Best. But years before that in the small city of Texarkana, TX, it was clear that, even as a young child, music and theatre would be main ingredients to David’s success.

From sharing the stage with well-known R&B and gospel acts like Kirk Franklin, Kelly Price, Dave Hollister, the legendary Caravans, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Vickie Winans, and Marvin Sapp to musical forays into the political scene: singing before then President-Elect Barack Obama and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, David’s light shines brightly and his gift of music is heads above his peers.

His vocal ability extends beyond musical genre. Years of study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music have helped perfect that gift and have afforded him opportunities to be a featured soloist at Berklee Performance Center as well as Boston Symphony Hall.

Weekly, he shares his musical gift with the congregation at St. John’s Downtown Church in Houston, which is the church superstar singer and actress Beyonce hails as her own. He’s a budding singer and actor and the world will continue to know the gift that is David Michael.
