Gospel Legends Coming Together For a Special Night of Music and Ministry Celebrating Kurt Carr’s Gospel Legacy

Children Sing Productions is sponsoring a 20-year anniversary musical celebrating the career of gold-selling gospel great, Kurt Carr. Over the last two decades, Kurt Carr has elevated the gospel music idiom to a high art form with his sophisticated songs of praise such as “For Every Mountain,” “I Almost Let Go,” “God Blocked It” and “In The Sanctuary.” Now, a who’s who of gospel legends are coming together for a special night of music and ministry celebrating Carr’s gospel legacy. Among the confirmed performers are Kim Burrell, Richard Smallwood, Beverly Crawford, Jennifer Holliday, Judith McAllister, VaShawn Mitchell,  Tramaine Hawkins, Atlanta West Pentecostal Choir,  Sherri Moffett, Crystal Aikin, Angelo & Veronica, James Hall, Chrystal Rucker, Kathy Taylor Brown and others to be announced later.

The star-studded event takes place Friday, February 24, 2012 @ 7 PM at The Cummings Street Baptist Church, 8800 Winchester Road, Memphis, TN 38125. All tickets are $25 each and available online from www.kurtcarrcelebration.eventbrite.com.

After graduating from the University of Connecticut with a fine arts degree circa 1986, Carr was mentored by Richard Smallwood. He then began to play piano or organ for recording sessions by Tramaine Hawkins, Cassietta George and “Star Search” contestant, Beau Williams. Eventually, Carr became the music director for the legendary gospel artist, Rev. James Cleveland. Carr and his Kurt Carr Singers ensemble released their first CD, “Together,” in 1991. Since then, it’s been a steady ascension for the group that is known for its precision vocals, passionate stage presence and Carr’s seamless blend of new school gospel and old world classical. Along the way, Carr, who is currently producing a new CD for gospel’s First Lady Shirley Caesar, has picked up an armful of Stellar Awards, earned a Dove Award and been nominated for a Grammy Award.
