Atlanta, GA –The sound of sexual abuse is silence.  Even though we don’t talk about it at dinner parties and family gatherings, the realities are staggering:

1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys have been sexually assaulted by a family member or close friend;

  • the majority of American rape victims (61%) are raped before the age of 18;
  •  29% of all forcible rapes occurred before the victim was 11 years old;and
  •  25% of rape victims are raped by their fathers/stepfathers (11%) or another family relative (16%).

And there is more.  But in the midst of the statistics and the silence, victims are often left to deal with the fallout of abuse on their own.

“Exposure is the first critical step in the journey to wholeness, as it helps victims and survivors understand that they are not alone,” says Dr. Mitchell.  “That’s why the seminars will include a variety of guests who will share their own experiences with sexual abuse, and talk about how they have been able to overcome itto lead healthy, whole lives.”  There will also be tools for thosewho work with sexual abuse victims, so pastors, ministers and mental health professionalsare encouraged to attend.  Other speakers include Pastor Maya Taylor, Open Word Christian Ministries (Fairburn, GA), and special surprise guests who will share their personal testimonies for encouragement and inspirations.

About Dr. Betty Mitchell

Driven by an unquenchable thirst to see the body of Christ walk in the deliverance and wholeness that has been predestined and prearranged for their lives, Dr. Mitchell has ministered healing and restoration to hundreds in both the US and the Caribbean through counseling, workshops and conference speaking.

After twenty five years as a manager and vice president of a Fortune 500 company, Dr. Mitchell heard the call to go into full time ministry with the message of Inner Healing. Coupled with a high powered and challenging career while raising two children as a single parent, Dr. Mitchell was driven by passion for hurting people, women and children, serving as a minister during 22 of her 25 corporate years. In 2008, Dr. Mitchell added her doctoral degree in the area of pastoral and clinical counseling to her 22 years of ministry. After personally ministering to hundreds of men and women devastated by the effects of sexual abuse, she launched a counseling ministry to expose, educate and empower in the area of incest and sexual abuse, and to heal “holes in the soul”. She is an author, speaker, licensed counselor, and an ordained minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
