Ohio Pastor Puts Stripper Pole Next to Pulpit to Talk Sex and Marriage

Ready to start a new sermon series called “Battle of the Sexes,” Pastor Mike Scruggs at the Light of Word Ministries in White Oak, Ohio, has put a stripper pole, video games and sports equipment on one side of the pulpit, representing what men desire. On the other side, he has set up a bed with candies, teddy bears, roses and a bottle of wine to depict what women want.

On all Sundays in April, Scruggs will share about best practices in bedroom, keeping intimacy alive and the need to build and maintain trust. “Right now we’re having single people having too much sex and married people not having enough sex,” he told Fox19.

The pastor will also encourage married couples in the church to take the “Sexperiment,” based on the book, Sexperiment: 7 Days to Lasting Intimacy with Your Spouse, by Texas-based Pastor Ed Young, calling on married couples to have sex for seven straight days to see “amazing results” lasting far beyond the week.

“Who better than the church to really bring clarity this…. what I call this holy concept that has been ordained by God,” fellow Pastor Ennis Tait was quoted as saying.

Pastor Scruggs held a pre-kickoff service for singles which drew a packed house. “We try to make it relevant, straightforward. We don’t sugarcoat anything,” WLWT.com quoted him as saying. “We talk about sex. We talk about drugs. We talk about faith. We talk about relationships… things that people are dealing with on a day-to-day basis.”

Scruggs admits some could get offended by his message. “We push the envelope, that’s true,” he said. “Don’t take it out of context. Some people say, ‘He’s going to hell. He’s wrong.’ We want to talk about it. We don’t want them to guess at it, assume it’s wrong. It’s right. We want to talk about it.”
