January is the month that, officially, kicks off award season, and gospel music giant Donnie McClurkin is locked in and ready to make his rounds. The 16th Annual Super Bowl Gospel Celebration kicks everything off on Friday, January 30, in Phoenix, Arizona. This year McClurkin will team up with the legendary Fred Hammond to perform a medley of gospel tunes at the Gammage Auditorium located on the campus of Arizona University. On Friday, February 6 the 46th Annual NAACP Image Awards will announce this years’ winners that’s set to air live on TV One. McClurkin is nominated in the Outstanding Gospel Album Category for his album titled Duets (RCA Inspirations) that feature some gospel music power-houses such as Tramaine Hawkins, Dorinda Clark Cole, Preashea Hilliard, Tina and Erica Campbell.
McClurkin was recently added to the list as a Slam Dunk Honoree at the 10th Annual All-Star-Gospel Celebration on Friday, February 13 during NBA All-Star Weekend at the World Famous Apollo Theater. Other Slam Dunk Honorees include NBA Players/Wives, NBA Legends, members of NBA organization and Community Leaders. The following week McClurkin is back on the west coast to Co-Host the 4th Annual Gospel Goes to Hollywood Awards Luncheon on Friday, February 20 at the Taglyan Cultural Complex in Hollywood. The awards luncheon (GGTH) is an inspirational Awards Luncheon celebrating the untold stories of faith during Oscar Week.
All roads lead to Las Vegas, Nevada on March 28 as McClurkin and all the biggest names in gospel music prepare to celebrate the 30th Annual Stellar Awards at the Orleans Arena. This year the gospel singer snagged two nominations, one for Traditional Male vocalist of the Year and the second for Special CD Event of the Year.
