Fred Hammond’s 13th CD, UNITED TENORS: Hammond, Hollister, Roberson, Wilson, debuts #1 on Billboard’s Gospel sales charts, and #39 on the Billboard Top-200. This scores Hammond, considered the chief architect of urban praise & worship, his 7th #1 Gospel debut.
UNITED TENORS: Hammond, Hollister, Roberson, Wilson brings a fresh perspective to praise and worship, with Hammond bringing together an impressive male ensemble to sing praises to the Lord. “For a long time women have been at the forefront of the Gospel music sound, and we want to complement that and show what it looks like when men worship together; and also show that men CAN worship together” says Hammond.
The United Tenors recently made appearances in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Richmond, Virginia and Washington, D.C. to promote the album. The first single from the United Tenors is “Here In Our Praise,” which is one of the most added songs at Gospel radio this week. It is a mellow sing-along in which they sing in unison: “With our hearts Lord, we worship you and we won’t be the same. In your power O Lord, we are changed! As we lift up your name let your presence reign over us as we worship you.”
Hammond says that this is the best album he’s ever done, because this essential band of brothers gelled so well together. “When assembling the group, I didn’t just listen to voices, but I also looked at character,” Hammond says. “I wanted to work with men who would work well together and complement each other. Personally, I have to put Fred Hammond’s solo career and solo personae on hold for the sake of making this group successful. This is a bigger cause, so I have to step back now and sing background…and I’m happy to do it. And these guys feel the same way…they play their parts. There are no egos.”
“Working with the United Tenors has been a total joy. The bottom line is, we are doing this out of love for God. I think that makes the biggest difference.”
