Described as the UK equivalent to BET’s Sunday Best, the Nation’s #1 Gospel Talent Quest ‘Time2Shine’ is back for another exciting season. After the success of season 1 in 2011, the team at Time2Shine Ministry has decided to give upcoming Gospel talent from around the country yet another opportunity to showcase their gift to the world. With a top management contract, an album release, a photo shoot, a music video, a website, and an international tour at the Barbados GospelFest all up for grabs (as well as an opportunity to have a 7-day vocal training week in Spain), Time2Shine Season 2 promises to be a show like no other. Founder & CEO MercyB says ‘This will not only bring Christian communities together but the exposure will help lift the barrier and give wider non-believing audiences an opportunity to see and hear the beauty of God’s music’.
Parallel to the Season 1, which received rave reviews from the likes of BBC London Radio Host Dotun Adebayo (and many others), the show will broadcast on Sky Television and will feature a star-studded line-up of 4 respected judges in the industry, hosted once again by BBC Presenter Josie D’arby. The judges for Time2Shine 2012 are Singer/Songwriter MercyB, Renowned Praise & Worship Leader Mark Beswick, MOBO Award Winning Artist Guvna B, and Comedian/Radio Personality Angie LeMar. Although Angie may be seen as the ‘newcomer’ on the judging panel, this will not be her first appearance on the show. Due to her many years of experience in the music and media industry, and coming from a church background herself, LeMar was called upon to appear as a guest judge during Time2Shine Season 1. When returning judge Guvna B was asked what he is searching for prior to Season 1, he stated ‘somebody that can be real legendary…something special’, and with the 2011 winners Divine Divine about to embark on their international tour, and gearing up to release their debut album, they are on their way to being just that, and no different is expected of the winners of 2012.
Time2Shine is formatted in a similar way to other talent contests, but with a slight twist. The stages begin from the audition process, which are followed by ‘Call Backs’ (a 2nd audition). The next stage is ‘Music Camp’, and after successfully passing this stage the contestants then move on to vocal training, which is the last stage before the finals. Unlike many other talent competitions, each season of Time2Shine does not only give just one person a shot of winning their life-changing prize, but four. The final 16 contestants are formed into four quartets who then compete for the grand prize.
