Just like R&B Sensation and Springfield, OH native John Legend, the Share Your Songbook contest winner Chevon Corlew, also from Springfield, truly knows that dreams do come true!
When up & coming songwriter, Chevon Corlew submitted her song “God Alone” for the Share Your Songbook contest, she had no idea that she would actually win! It is a songwriter’s dream to have their music heard, but it is a Dream come true for it to be shared with 2-time Grammy Nominated Artist/Songwriter Vashawn Mitchell!
Yes, Chevon Corlew won the “Share Your Songbook” contest, but her dreams became reality when she stepped off the airplane in Atlanta, GA on June 4th.
After arriving in pure excitement to Atlanta, Chevon prepared her heart and mind to witness 2-time Grammy Nominee Vashawn Mitchell in concert and to later sit down with him for a candid conversation. Her first stop was at the Greenbriar Mall where she attended and enjoyed Vashawn Mitchell’s live performance along with other energized Vashawn Mitchell fans.
As if winning the contest and seeing Vashawn perform wasn’t enough for Ms. Corlew, her day was just beginning as she was quickly prepped for the ultimate surprise, meeting Vashawn Mitchell in person!
Next, Chevon was escorted by Tyscot’s Promotions Director, Jeff Hargrove to Johnny Carino’s Italian Restaurant to meet with Vashawn Mitchell.
After enjoying a splendid meal, Chevon had the opportunity to ask Vashawn questions pertaining to songwriting and the music industry. Vashawn graciously shared info on the importance of branding, tips on writing songs as well as getting them recorded. Vashawn and Chevon’s transparent conversation was truly the icing on the cake and one that she will forever cherish in her career as a songwriter.
What more could a new songwriter ask for? Well let’s just say that it was definitely worth it for Chevon to share her songbook and in return for Vashawn Mitchell to share his book of wisdom with her!
