While listening to our favorites songs, do we ever wonder, what inspired the songwriter and if they pulled from a personal experience or from observing others? No matter, the source, once the foundation is set, a song has the capacity to grab our hearts in a mighty way and inspire beyond years. Building from a true source is also important for new artist, Corey Barksdale, a profound songwriter who believes in writing from a real place, in order to produce a lyrical and melodic testimony.
“I try my best to put passion behind the melody and the lyrics. My lyrics will always be very honest, I’m not commercial kind of writer, I can do it but I really love to pull from my heart.”–Corey Barksdale
In 2013, Corey’s authentic, lyrical content caught the attention of a few program directors and radio stations in Chicago, including WYCA-102.3 FM. Not only were Corey’s songs well received by the station, but they were shared immediately with the station’s listeners. Corey has received a tremendous amount of support from WYCA 102.3 FM radio and on Thursday, March 13th, Corey will stop by WYCA for an in-studio interview on the Darryll King Morning Show. Listeners just may hear a few of Corey’s songwriting tips during the interview.
The live studio interview will be Corey’s first stop this week and the music will continue on Saturday, March 15th, as he joins several artists in concert at Full Gospel Assemblies International Church in Hazel Crest, IL at 6pm. Later that evening, Corey will hit center stage as the featured artist for the WYCA 102.3 FM radio Skating Jam at Glenwood Skating Rink, Glenwood, IL at 9pm.
The weekend will culminate on Sunday, March 16th, as Corey sings live in concert at Higher Ground Community Church in Calumet City, IL at 6:30pm.
