Multiple Dove Award Nominations For Bishop Jerry L. Maynard & Cathedral of Praise and Ben Tankard

bishop-jerry-l-maynard-and-the-cathedral-of-praise-choirThe Gospel Music Association (GMA) announced the nominees in 42 categories for the 44th Annual GMA Dove Awards.  The awards show will take place on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Allen Arena on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN at 7:30pm CT.  Two Nashville based gospel artists have garnered multiple nominations – Bishop Jerry L. Maynard and The Cathedral of Praise Choir and Ben Tankard.

Cathedral of Praise Church Choir, under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Jerry L. Maynard, and on his new record label Jelama Records, released their inaugural project Bishop Jerry Maynard Presents The Cathedral Of Praise Choir which debuted on the Billboard’s Top Gospel Chart at #10 and produced a high-spirited radio single that quickly rose to the top of the gospel radio charts.  “Just Believe” became a Top 30 Gospel radio chart hit with the contribution of powerful lead vocals from Michelle Prather (Kurt Carr Singers and Kevin Davidson & the Voices).   Maynard and his choir have received their first two Dove Award Nominations for Traditional Gospel Album of the Year and Traditional Gospel Song of the Year (“Just Believe”).  

Bishop Jerry Maynard Presents The Cathedral of Praise Choir was produced by Phil Hughley and Elvin “Kiko” Negron and directed by talented songstress Kyla Jade.  The project features Don Moen, Nia Allen, Candy West, Pam Crawford and Durward Davis and marks the first project on Bishop Maynard’s own Jelama Records label with distribution by Central South Distribution.

Hailed as the God Father of Gospel Jazz, Ben Tankard has snagged three Dove Award Nominations: Contemporary Gospel/Urban Song of the Year (“Full Tank”), Contemporary Gospel/Urban Album of the Year (Full Tank), and Instrumental Album of the Year (Full Tank).

Tankard’s “Full Tank” single, featuring sax man Gerald Albright hit the Billboard Smooth Jazz National Radio Chart Top 20 and topped the Independent Smooth Jazz Singlessales chart.  Ben Tankard also captured a 2013 Soul Train Music Award nomination forBest Contemporary Jazz Artist.

Tankard has also had a full schedule this year touring and gearing up for the debut of his new reality television series Thicker Than Water: The Tankards, which will premiere on BRAVO TV this fall.
