Unity Media Limited the production company behind the renowned Gospel Superfest Television series announces the release of its 18th annual Salute to Black Music telecast. Gospel Superfest’ 18th Salute to Black Music has been licensed to the TV One Network and will debut on Sunday, June 10th at 8:00 PM/ET with subsequent broadcasts to follow at 10:00 PM/ET and 12:00 midnight.
The show, filmed in front of a live TV audience in Dayton, OH, is full of uplifting and inspiring performances that gospel and mainstream music fans will truly enjoy. The one-hour spectacular includes performances by Grammy Award Winner Erica Campbell of Mary Mary fame. Campbell is joined by a star-studded cast of gospel greats including Ricky Dillard & New G, Bryan Popin, internet sensation Kelonte Gavin, Brian Courtney Wilson, The Howard University Gospel Choir and others.
Gospel Superfest’ Salute to Black Music is hosted by film and TV star Wendy Raquel Robinson (The Game, Steve Harvey Show) who is electric and elegant all at the same time. Robinson shines and commands the live audience with her comedic approach to the show. This is Robinson’ fifth stint as host of Gospel Superfest.
Gospel Superfest’ 18th Salute to Black Music is executive produced by Bobby Cartwright, Jr. the show’s founder and creator and is directed by Ryan Polito. Emmy Award winning -production designer Rene Lager serves as scenic designer. Detroit’s Kevin Lawson serves as lighting designer. The production is co-produced by Tiffany Price and Rhonda Wilson. Longtime GSF voice talent Faith Daniels of WROU-92.1 FM returns to do the honors as narrator.
This year the show pauses to salute a gospel music icon and James Cleveland protégé Dr. Charles Fold (Posthumously) with its prestigious Gospel Superfest’ Lifetime Achievement Award. The tribute features rarely seen footage of Fold and concludes with a 100 voice choir tribute comprised of The Gospel Music Workshop of America’s Dayton and Cincinnati Chapter Choirs. Dr. Fold’s Grammy Award winning Charles Fold Singers also join in the tribute with a memorable medley of hits. The lifetime achievement award segment video is co-produced by Soteria Brown. The choir tribute is produced by Morris Mingo, Kevan B. Beamon, Faye Johnson, Ron Logan & Christine Brown.
