Have Faith Records recording artist J. Nichole Jones is a one-woman powerhouse. In addition to being a gifted singer and business leader, she is a Gospel radio announcer, the founder of the non-profit Single Moms On The Go, the CEO of Have Faith Records and the visionary for the VIP Gospel Industry Music and Business Meet, Eat and Greet Networking Events. The entrepreneur and minister shares her message of faith through a variety of mediums. What’s been catching the attention of fellow Gospel radio announcers is her track, “Blessing Me”. The bouncy, inspirational cut is one of the highlights from the artist’s debut release,
No More Running. The single “Blessing Me”, co-written by Gospel music pioneer and industry veteran Henry Harris, is currently available on digital retailers.
“Blessing Me” was an honor for the Gospel and Christian singer to record. She counts Harris as a mentor and was a student of ECMA, the Excellence in Christian Music Association, founded by Henry Harris. “Mr. Harris said that he would be honored if one of his students would record a song of his one day,” J. Nichole recounts. “I asked him for a song and he gave me ‘Blessing Me’. Once I received the song, I asked him if I could make a few changes, a more contemporary style that fit me better. He allowed me to do that and since it’s been released, I have been getting some great feedback.”
“Blessing Me” is just one of the songs on J. Nichole Jones’s debut release. “My Life Is Not Over”, another track on No More Running, was written in honor of J. Nichole’s mother, Yvonne Jones. Years ago, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor; because of the location of the tumor, the doctors’ prognosis for Mrs. Jones was bleak. They told her that her mobility would be severely limited after the surgery to remove the growth. A strong woman of faith, Jones declared her healing and literally stood on the Bible. She received just what she believed and is in great health today. J. Nichole’s mother is the reason why the artist sings and the psalmist thought it appropriate to recognize the woman who helps push her business, her ministry and music, nationally and internationally.
Another track that’s been receiving great reviews is the song, “Confidence”. The song’s lyrics were given to the artist by her mother, a songwriter and poet. The message of the tune is about overcoming. J. Nichole remembers God inspiring her as she wrote the melody and additional lyrics. “At the time, I was going through some very traumatic situations and God spoke to me, telling that I am an overcomer. He said to me that no matter what’s going on, I will overcome this. God showed me that I have to be confident in Him and in Him alone,” she says. She believes the song is for anyone who is in the midst of a troubling time or a situation that seems hopeless. Each song on the record is geared to inspire and is destined to bring hope. Tracks like the pop-flavored “Have Faith” and the mellow title tune not only provide a pleasant sonic experience but lighten the spirit at the same time. The CD was produced by InnerFlame Productions and all of the tracks were written by Yvonne Jones and J. Nichole. Throughout the project’s ten tracks, J. Nichole’s flawless vocals and powerful execution are center stage and clearly displayed to the listener from song to song. It’s hard to believe the project almost didn’t happen.
Years ago, the gifted songstress decided to fly to Los Angeles to make it as a pop artist. She had great aspirations and was so close to making them a reality. But God had other plans. “In Gospel music, the enemy told me that I didn’t fit in; I didn’t sound like the other singers in the genre. I didn’t feel like I had the “big” voice like so many of my favorites so I decided to become a pop star. I was close to signing a deal with a major record label and was rubbing shoulders with some of the top artists in pop and R&B, but ultimately, the deal fell through. When that happened, so many doors were closed for me. I tried to make it after that, but quickly realized that I wasn’t the only one with a decent look who could hold a note. When things did not work out, it crushed me. I returned to the East Coast devastated. In the midst of that, my mom reminded me that I wasn’t putting God first. She said I needed to focus on God and I decided to do just that,” shares J. Nichole. Eventually, she started singing again, but this time she decided to do it for the Lord. The result was No More Running.
With two parents who are lovers of music – her father is a musician and her mother is an evangelist and songwriter – it was hard for J. Nichole to run. She started singing at talent shows at the age of 7 and by age 8 she was little Miss Southern Pennsylvania. Throughout her life, she has always been around music and gifted in music. But for J. Nichole, music is just an avenue to get the message of Christ to the people who need to hear it. It’s her passion to inspire and help those around her that pushed her to start Single Moms On The Go, a non-profit organization with outreach programs for mothers and children in need. In addition to heading her own record label, Have Faith Records, she also launched the VIP Gospel Industry Music and Business Meet, Eat and Greet Networking Events which aim to connect Gospel artists with businesses and entrepreneurs who can help artists further their music ministries.
