One listen to a song by Gospel Artist Dana Fields and it’s easy to see that she is more than just a gifted singer and songwriter. She’s on a mission to inspire people through song. Melding elements of jazz, R&B and soul in her music, she delivers spirit-moving performances with Christ-centered lyrics. Her gift has certainly made room for her and she’s been honored to open up for artists such as Earnest Pugh, Vickie Winans and Richard Smallwood. Recently, the recording artist caught the attention of the Gospel music industry when her sophomore CD,
A Personal Experience, entered the Billboard Top Gospel Albums Chart at #21 and Reverbnation.com named Dana the #1 Gospel/Christian Artist in Pennsylvania. A rousing collection of Gospel and worship-filled tunes, the CD is currently available.
The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, resident is excited and humbled about the project and the response it’s been receiving. A Personal Experience was birthed out of spending time alone with God and trusting in His vision to record a project with nothing but a faith budget. “I was so surprised about the Billboard charting,” shares Dana. “It’s surreal to me. I love the fact that the CD has charted, but what really encourages me is that the music is being shared. It’s wonderful to know that people are being blessed by the music. I see these songs as children God allowed me to nurture. It’s almost like they have grown up and now are blessing other people,” she says.
In the new record, Dana exposes her heart and her passion for God. A Personal Experience opens a window into the soul of this gifted songstress. The title track is a sonic beauty showcasing Dana’s heartfelt vocals and exquisite songwriting. Listeners have been enjoying tracks like the uplifting “Dew of Heaven”, the soulful “Mercy & Grace” and the worshipful “Simply Because”, which features American Idol Season 11 Contestant Adam Brock. Dana’s soothing vocals are showcased on tracks like the melodic “Hungry”, the groove-laden “Seize The Day” and the CD’s first single, the jazz-influenced “Yes To Your Love”. The project contains a who’s who of musicians beginning with producer and keyboardist Tim James whose credits include The Browns and Joshua Aaron, drummer Dan Needham, who plays for Michael McDonald, drummer Garth Justice, who has worked with Mandisa and Jaci Velasquez and guitar and bassist Jeremy Medcalf, who has played with Jason Crabb and Donnie McClurkin. It’s not just the superior musicianship that draws the worshipper in; it’s the sincerity of the lyrics and the transparent heart of Dana that touches the listener. Throughout the project’s 15 tracks, Dana brings believers into her world of faith, leaving them inspired and changed.
Born in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, Dana Fields is the daughter of Rev. Dr. William and Rev. Dr. Barbara Terry. She hails from multiple generations of musicians and ministers. Groomed as a singer at the age of 3, it was no surprise when she gave her heart to the Lord just a few years later. Her home was filled with music and she grew up listening to Stevie Wonder, Andraé Crouch, Aretha Franklin and Yolanda Adams. She says, “Singing was like breathing as my whole family sang.” It wasn’t until she saw people weeping in the congregation as she sang did she realize she was to use her talent to Glorify God. During her musical career, she has been mentored by former Motown Producer Leonard Caston. Dana has served as a worship leader for years and honed her songwriting and arranging skills before releasing her debut CD, Nothing’s Impossible, in 2008. A Personal Experience released in late 2016 to rave reviews. Known as a favorite in her hometown, she has been featured on other recordings as well. She has sung background vocals for top Gospel artists including Stephen Hurd, William Murphy, Yolanda Adams and Donnie McClurkin at the Gospel Heritage Foundation’s Praise & Worship Conference. An actress, model and visual artist as well, Dana has been featured in numerous plays and commercials. She is the wife of DeWayne Fields and celebrates 25 years of marriage in 2017. They are the proud parents of two sons, Dayne and Donovan.
