GMC To Telecast The 2011 Dove Awards

GMC will telecast 42nd annual Dove Awards next April as part of a multi-year renewal agreement between the Gospel music-themed network and The Gospel Music Association.

The Dove Awards, which honors the best performances in Gospel/Christian Music, will air on GMC in April 2011 from Atlanta – the first time the show has taken place outside of Nashville, according to network officials.

The 2010 Dove Awards telecast this past April garnered more than 300,000 viewers for GMC.

“GMC is thrilled to present the Dove Awards for another year to Gospel and Christian music fans,” said Charley Humbard, President and CEO of GMC. “As the leading television provider of Gospel music, we are dedicated to making GMC the television home of Gospel and Christian music’s biggest events.”

The Dove Awards renewal comes as the network looks to build on its original programming offerings by recently greenlighting production of its first made-for-cable movie titled Brotha White.

The movie stars David A.R. White (Evening Shade, Mercy Streets, In the Blink of an Eye) as successful youth pastor at an upscale Orange County, Calif. Mega church who’s life gets turned around when he becomes the head pastor at an inner city African-American church in Atlanta.

“This is an exciting project for us because it hits on so many of the touchpoints that are important to GMC and our loyal viewers, including a family-friendly theme with uplifting messages and the strong presence of gospel music,” said Brad Siegel, vice chairman of GMC. “The movie will convey a very warm, down-to-earth humor that will engage and entertain our viewers.”
