Byron Cage knows Gospel music. As the Minister of Music at Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington, MD and at St. Paul’s Baptist Church in Richmond, VA, Cage is a gifted worship leader, choir director, singer, songwriter and producer. Many know him for his Billboard charting hits like “The Presence of The Lord” and “I Will Bless The Lord”. Now the GRAMMY Award Nominee is taking on a new role as the host of Radio One’s Sunday Joy in Washington, D.C.
Praise 104.1, D.C.’s Inspiration Station, is welcoming Byron Cage to its Sunday afternoon slot beginning October 7, 2012 from noon to 4PM. Cage is thrilled about the opportunity to expand the reach of his ministry. “I am overjoyed to have been asked to be a part of the Radio One announcer family,” says Cage. “I have been tied to Gospel radio for 20 years as an artist. As God enlarges my territory, I look forward to serving with humility, integrity and excellence. Favor ain’t fair, but it’s a lot of fun.”
Growing up in Grand Rapids, MI, Cage was mentored by the late Gospel great Thomas Whitfield. He burst on to the national gospel music scene with his debut CD, Live at New Birth, which spawned the hits, “Thou Art A Shield For Me: Psalm 3”, “There Is A Name”, and the now Gospel classic, “The Presence Of The Lord”. Those hits were followed by “I Will Bless The Lord”, “Broken But I’m Healed”, “Faithful To Believe”, “With All of My Might” and the current smash “Great & Mighty”, from his ninth release, Memoirs of a Worshipper.
Throughout his 25-year career, Cage has netted a GRAMMY Award Nomination, a Dove Award Nomination, two BET Award Nominations, two NAACP Award Nominations, a Soul Train Award, seven Stellar Awards and many others. His riveting songs and dynamic presence have made him a staple in today’s Gospel musical landscape. For more information on Byron Cage, log on to www.ByronCageOnline.com.
