Daniel Weatherspoon #1 On Contemporary Jazz Album Chart

unnamed-18Grammy-winning musician, composer, songwriter, Daniel Weatherspoon’s modern Jazz album, “The Langley Park Project” debuted at Number 1 on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Album chart this week. This is Weatherspoon’s first Jazz project and it offers personal insight into a deeply expressive musician. “The Langley Park Project” also debuted entered the Top Jazz Album Chart at Number 6.

Amassing Grammys, Stellar and Dove Awards, Weatherspoon’s renowned music career has spanned over two decades. The Chicago native cut his teeth as many do playing at church before hitting the road to play professionally for a myriad of mainstream and gospel artists.

It is the piano that Weatherspoon calls home and he aptly connects life and music, beautifully playing on “The Langley Park Project.”  And it is the combination of experience and technical skill that are on display on the carefully thought out 10-track project. “The Langley Park Project” is a fusion of jazz, gospel, instrumentation and all parts in between.

Named for his current hometown of Langley Park (Maryland) “The Langley Park Project” profoundly conveys turning points in Daniel’s life. From “Boston Ave”  the actual start of the album represents the literal start of Weatherspoon’s time in Maryland, to the meaningful Thursday,” a standout and deeply personal song about proposing to his wife. Additionally, Tommy Sims guests on the album with a timely and needed song “Brother.”

Weatherspoon continues to travel, create music and produce for various projects.
