It’s true what they say, a family that prays together, stays together. With that ideology in mind, Gospel Icon CeCe Winans reached out to her Twitter follows for support with keeping her nephew, Michael Winans, Jr., out of prison. On Tuesday, the beloved singer and auntie sent out the following tweet:
“Please help my nephew Michael Winans Jr to stay free from prison. Praying for Gods mercy, believing for a miracle!”
The tweet also included a link to an online petition written by Michael to Judge Sean Cox. In case you missed it, Michael plead guilty to wire fraud charges for an alleged ponzi scheme that he helped orchestrate. Thus, he was sentenced to serve nearly 14 years in prison for his part in the crime. Below you can see his letter to the judge.

Greetings my name is Michael Winans, Jr. There are a myriad of media stories claiming I stole $8M from innocent individuals. That is not true. However, because, I was ill-advised by my attorney, not to comment on the case, the legal court and the court-of-public-opinion convicted me of being guilty based on everything presented by the media. My attorney also told me to plead guilty to wire FRAUD, which took the burden of proof off of the government. My family and I maintain I was targeted because of the Winans’ name, and I didn’t even know I was a target.
We believe a severe injustice has occurred in my case. My character, name and livelihood are immensely affected by this situation. My profession as a successful music producer is compromised because the stories paint me as a swindler. My wife feels unsafe and insecure because of this injustice, the harsh prison sentence and the resulting chaotic state of our life. We are raising a one year old daughter that is being negatively impacted. I pride myself on being a person of integrity and will fight this injustice. My reputation and family’s good name MUST be restored back to an excellent standing.

I will continue to pray that the truth is revealed sooner than later. I pray that God continues to give Michael and the entire Winan family the strength to keep fighting for the Truth to be revealed.

I love CeCe Winans and I understand why she is standing by her nephew. However Michael Winans committed a crime and deserves to serve his time just like everyone else. I pray for his family but I also pray for those he hurt.

I consider myself to be a MAJOR fan of the entire Winans family. I feel for Michael Jr., I really do. However, when he learned that the bonds were bogus, he kept going. Whether you are a Winans or not, you are still subject to the laws of the land and of the church. He needs to be in jail for what he has done to others. This will allow him to know; Winans or not, right is right and wrong is wrong!!
