The glitz and glamour of Hollywood came out to downtown Ridgewood, New Jersey last week for the red-carpet premiere of Director/Writer Joshua Coates, faith based movie “But Deliver Us From Evil.” The stars of the ‘Sold Out”, premiere walked the red-carpet with a heavy media presence along with a long list of fans and cast members.
Held this year at the Bow Tie Cinema on Thursday, April 27, 2017 this year’s International Film Festival was bigger and better than ever with the heaviest crowd pouring onto the streets and along the red-carpet for “But Deliver Us From Evil.”
Walking the red carpet for the highly anticipated production were actors Alice Rose (Star and Newcomer) Christopher Mann (Oscar-nominated Loving, But Deliver Us From Evil, The Wire), Franklin Ojeda Smith (Boardwalk Empire, The Blacklist), RJ Konner (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, The Adjustment Bureau ), Sheilah Belle (host of The Belle Report), Mark Lipsky (WOF Films, Executive Producer of classic films such as Coming to America, the Nutty Professor and Beverly Hills Cop 3), Karen Gravano (reality star Mob Wives), Debra King (Don King Productions), Veryl Howard(Faith Management), Trina Patterson (Stylist to the Stars), Jason Swanston (CEO of Onvio.TV ) and Ma Barker (Project Heat and Rapper) and many more.
About the Movie
“But Deliver Us From Evil,” was written and directed by Philadelphia native Joshua Coates. The 1 hour and 43 minute movie, centers around the character Lilith (Jewish folklore), who is played by new comer Alice Rose. Lilith, believed by some, is the alleged dismissed first wife of Adam who re-emerges during the present day and seeks revenge against man kind. She also represents the old saying “Hell Hath No Fury, Like a Woman’s Scorned” and throughout this production, Coates leaves very little to the imagination as he paints a sometimes graphic picture of Lilith’s rage.
With just a bit of background on Lilith which is based on Jewish folklore was created at the same time and from the same dirt as Adam. This is a huge contrast with Eve, who was created from one of Adam’s ribs according to Genesis 2:22. The legend about Lilith however, developed extensively during the Middle Ages, in the tradition of the Zohar and Jewish mysticism.
Coates does a good job in transforming this myth into the current setting of Atlanta 2017. As the movie slowly unravels and tells the story of Lilith, her wrath is slowly revealed through numerous murders of men. It’s sort of like pieces to a puzzle slowly being put together, and by the end of the movie they all fit.
The movie stars Pooch Hall, Eric Roberts, Grant Harvey, Christopher Mann, R J Konner, Thorsten Kaye and Torrei Hart and introducing Alice Roseas Lilith. Other supporting roles were played by Franklin Smith, Cynthia Rodriquez, Sheilah Belle, Veronica Petrucci, Stanley R Jordan, Latavia Roberson and Isaac Keys (Jurassic World).
“This was a major learning experience for me, from being in front of the camera to working behind the camera on this project. Director Joshua Coates, was simply amazing to work with as he created multiple opportunities in other creative roles,” says Sheilah Belle. It was also just announced that “But Deliver Us From Evil,” will be hitting movie theaters on Halloween 2017.
Following the screening, the cast and filmmakers gathered for an after party at the Fish Urban restaurant where they dined on heavy hors d’oeuvres along with countless picture taking and autograph signing.
The film festival has truly grown on the past seven years. It has expanded to three nights and is now an international film festival, accepting films from around the world with more and more filmmakers participating in the event.
