The 2012 Soul Train Award Nominees were announced and amongst the celebrated league of music’s finest is Gospel/Jazz Pioneer Ben Tankard. Ben Tankard has snagged his first Soul Train Music Award Nomination for Best Contemporary Jazz Artist. The Soul Train Awards will be taped before a live audience on Nov. 8, 2012 in Las Vegas. It will be aired internationally on BET / CENTRIC on Nov. 25 during the Thanksgiving Holiday week-end.
“This is the most successful record of my 20+ year career, and the music industry is buzzing with excitement about it,” Tankard says. “I pray that my music and message of destiny continues to inspire and motivate people through relaxed thought, peace, and reflection,” he continues. “Way down on the inside everyone has the potential for greatness, and it is time to tap into the FULL TANK that the creator gave you. I am indeed thankful and humbled by this nomination (my first), for a Soul Train Award.”
Tankard released FULL TANK on his own Ben-Jamin’ Universal Music label this summer. FULL TANK is his 18th solo project and marks 20 years of a successful music career. FULL TANK is topping the world music charts and has been nominated for a Stellar Gospel Music Award and is on the eligibility ballot for eight Grammy Award nominations. Talking about a Full Tank!
Tankard is currently on a 200 city tour to promote the CD and his Reality TV Show which will launch early 2013. Indeed a trendsetter, Tankard is also a licensed private pilot who flies to all his events on his own airplane.
Tankard is recognized as a dynamic instrumentalist, writer, and arranger and is most noted as the producer that discovered Yolanda Adams, creating over 40 hit songs with her (“Through The Storm”, “Just A Prayer Away”, “Battle Is The Lord’s”, “Let Us Worship Him”). Tankard’s music has always crossed genre, racial, and denominational borders as evident on his latest release which has two lead singles at both Christian/Gospel and Mainstream radio.
His FULL TANK release features sax man Gerald Albright and jazz guitarist Tim Bowman on the Smooth Jazz chart topping radio hits “Full Tank” and “Sunday Vibes”. Tankard also collaborates with soul singer Cynthia Jones on “Something About That Name” and Mark Kibble and Take 6 on “Black Butterfly”.
