Earlier this year, Ms. Oretha Winston, lead editor for the online entertainment media site, Elev8.com affectionately named new artist Corey Barksdale, “Gospel’s Next Traveling Man”. Ms. Winston’s inspiration surfaced after admiring and following Corey’s music and significant journey as a Gospel artist. Little did Corey know, that which was spoken, would quickly become his reality.
Since releasing his hit songs, “Persona” and “You’re Irreplaceable”, this dynamic singer and songwriter has been favored to travel and make National appearances on The Steve Harvey TV Talk Show, “Praise The Lord” on TBN and “Rejoice in The Word” on The Word Network.
Corey’s music has also been greatly applauded overseas, during his travels to Sweden, Israel, Netherlands, Jerusalem, Holland and Amsterdam. Traveling has only been one of many doors opened, as Barksdale’s songs continue to receive major love at radio.
This multi-talented singer and songwriter has become confident in being himself while traveling, singing and creating music, just as the lyrics to his song “Persona” boldly state, “I can be the greatest at being someone else, but I’d rather be me, because I love myself”, The best person, I can be is me.”
Barksdale expounded more on what challenged his authenticity, during a recent interview: “Being held at a certain standard, challenged me with being normal and being myself. Had to try and be what others wanted me to be or someone I was not.”
On Sunday, May 25th, Corey will continue with his travels as he joins Faith Temple COGIC-1932 Dewey Avenue in Evanston, IL for their Annual Pre-Memorial Day Late Night Musical. Supporters from the Illinois area are encouraged to join Corey Barksdale during The Pre-Memorial Day Musical, which will begin at 9pm.
