Kerry Douglas, CEO of World Wide Music Inc and his team is upping the ante and pushing Zacardi Cortez’ radio smash “1 on 1” to new heights. The soul-stirring ballad is spending its third week at #1 on Billboard magazine’s Gospel Airplay chart and has now debuted at #27 with a bullet on Billboard’s Adult R&B chart. “This is a message we want to spread beyond the walls of the church,” says Douglas. “Everybody needs some one on one time with God but also with the people who mean something to them. With our hectic lives, the song is just a little reminder to make some time for one on one time.”
A lot of urban stations are jumping on the song to help spread the message. The song is the second most added song at radio behind Pharell Williams’ “Happy.” New York’s power urban station WBLS has added it to its Quiet Storm rotation. Other stations that have added the song recently include WDAS (Philadelphia), WWIN (Baltimore), WTUG (Birmingham), KOKY (Little Rock), WIMX (Toledo), KISX (Tyler, TX), KDKS (Shreveport), WAGH (Columbus), WKZJ (Columbus) and WMPZ (Chattanooga).
The soulful song anchors Cortez’ forthcoming 13-track CD “Reloaded: Deluxe Edition” (World Wide Music, Inc.) that will be released April 1, 2014. “Zacardi is the best singer in America today,” says Douglas who discovered Cortez over a decade ago. “I’ve been grooming him like I groomed James Fortune and Earnest Pugh. I have no doubt that he will be one of the biggest artists the gospel world has ever seen.” The 28-year old rising star first sang with his family, The Cortez Singers, as a child. He first gained notice as the lead on James Fortune & FIYA’s 2008 breakthrough hit “The Blood” and their subsequent #1 smash, “I Believe.” He’s as well known for his intricate vocal gymnastics and fiery hoops as for his smooth tone. He can sing it all, from gutbucket blues to polished pieces. For more information, visit www.mrkerrydouglas.com or www.zacardicortez.com.
