Shirley Murdock Pays Tribute to Mentor Roger Troutman

On Tuesday, November 20th, Shirley Murdock will join the city of Dayton, OH for the unveiling of the statue honoring funk music legend Roger Troutman. The statue and project has been appropriately named “The Music Lives On”.

The statue was created by Dayton artist Michael Bashaw and commissioned by the Phoenix Project and is located on the former site of Troutman Recording Studio in Dayton, OH.  Shirley Murdock first suggested the idea for the statue and is excited about its unveiling. Murdock was Roger Troutman’s prodigy and was very instrumental in her music career success.

Murdock expressed her excitement about the project and her respect for Troutman, “This project for me…was a labor of love. Roger was not only my dear friend and mentor, he was an amazing gift to the world. I am so grateful that so many people agreed that he and his music was worthy of this remembrance and what better place to do so, than right here at the site where the joyful sounds were created!”

Murdock along with Troutman’s family, friends, fans and community leaders will gather on November 20th at 11am for the official ceremony in Dayton, OH. It will be a huge celebration and organizers, including Murdock hope to set up a scholarship in Troutman’s name. Murdock is encouraging fans of Troutman’s music to come out and show their love and support during this huge event.
