Grammy Award-Winner Brandy Norwood to Make Broadway Debut in “Chicago” as Roxie Hart

The Broadway Company of the Tony Award-winning, record-breaking hit musical Chicago will welcome Grammy Award-winner Brandy Norwood making her Broadway debut in the role of Roxie Hart beginning Tuesday, April 28, 2015. She will play an 8-week limited engagement at the Ambassador Theatre (219 W. 49th St., NYC) through Sunday, June 21, 2015.

A Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter and actress, Brandy Norwood has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide. She first stole our hearts with her multi-platinum self-titled debut album featuring the hit single “I Wanna Be Down.” Her record “The Boy Is Mine” is the longest running number-one song and best-selling duet of all time. As an actress, Brandy has starred in her own sitcom, “Moesha,” and made history in Disney’s television film Cinderella as its first black princess, starring alongside her icon Whitney Houston. Chicago currently stars Grammy Award winner Jennifer Nettles as Roxie Hart and Carly Hughesas Velma Kelly through Sunday, March 29 only. Beginning Monday, March 30, Emmy Award nominee Paige Davis begins a 4-week engagement as Roxie Hart (through Monday, April 27) and international stage sensation Amra-Faye Wright returns to the company as Velma Kelly (through Sunday, July 26).Chicago also currently stars Tony Award nominee John Dossett as Billy FlynnRaymond Bokhour as Amos HartNaTasha Yvette Williams as Matron “Mama” Morton and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.

With a legendary book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, Chicago is now the #1 longest-running American musical in Broadway history.

Produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, Chicago is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording. Directed by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Tony Award winner Ann Reinking, Chicago features set design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by Tony Award winner William Ivey Long, lighting design by Tony Award winner Ken Billington and sound design by Scott Lehrer.

Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, Chicago is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.
