As you can imagine, Saving Our Daughters was busy this month, as they launched Grammy artists, Kelly Rowland’s first domestic violence PSA video created by Derek Blanks; creating a new project for the Founders daughter-who lost her battle with cancer, as well as preparing for the first annual shoe drive presented by Show Me Shoes for homeless teen girls.
On Thursday October 24th, the hard work paid off, as the organization’s first Gospel Artist, BET Sunday BEST, season 2 winner decided to support her charity by stopping by to help with the First Annual Saving Our Daughters “Yell Confidence… Starting with the SOLE” in partnership with the Covenant House of Georgia.
This special event was sponsored by Show Me Shoes & Elite Scholars Academy partnering that collected over 100 pairs of women shoes weeks prior to present a special shopping day for 25 homeless teen girls that resided at the Covenant House Georgia. This ground-braking event was coordinated by Saving Our Daughters’ Event Coordinator & Social Media Coordinator, Brittany Barry and Lacey Sentino and Kellie Glenn, Development Coordinator of Covenant House of Georgia.
Y’Anna spent half of her day giving AWESOME testimony of her personal experience as a teen mother and raising boys on her own as well as hearing the girls’ stories. After speaking to the young ladies, Y’Anna was joined by seasons 3& 4 BET Sunday BEST Winners, Amber Bullock and LeAndria Johnson as they related to similar life experiences. Show me shoes created a quick fashion show for all the young ladies to show off their new shoes and win prizes.
Many of the shoes were also donated from some of the Saving Our Daughters philanthropic women supporters such as First Lady Cristina Murray of Oasis Family Church, Hip -Hop Mogul, DaBrat, and T.I.’s, sister, Precious. Also special guest, an iconic Grammy award singer, Angie Stone, accompanied Y’Anna, LeAndria and Amber to support this special event for the girls.
