“Africa Worship” was recorded in Johannesburg, South Africa. The set creates musical history as one of the most innovative, and wonderful syntheses of musical styles that blends elements of Gospel, Classical, and Africa’s indigenous rhythms together for a powerful worship experience.
This album is packed with features and new music from some of Africa’s greatest artists from South Africa, Nigeria, Swaziland, Ghana. Mitchell presents Joe Mettle on “We Crown Him”; Ntokozo Mbambo, “Amen”; Yvonne May, “Our God”; and Takie Ndou, on “Baba Ngsite.” There is a host of other worship leaders who joined Mitchell to birth this unique sound.
“Africa Worship was an amazing experience for me. The opportunity to collaborate with artists from all over Africa was the highlight for me,” Mitchell said. “They taught me a song in Zulu as well. The energy and worship experience in South Africa is second to none and will be felt throughout this project. I’m Looking forward to the listeners hearing this project and working with these amazing artists again.”
This 12-song album is built around Mitchell’s theory that it’s important to involve an array of both international and regional artists. This theory was proven with his song, “God is Good,” which remains one of the biggest songs in South Africa.
This is Mitchell’s second African live recording. His previous set, 2016’s “Secret Place” was recorded in Johannesburg. “It is the most humbling and amazing experience when the people of South Africa sing along with my songs and worship with me,” he says. “It’s still surreal that the message made its way around the world. God is awesome!”
