hearing DeVon last night reminded me of a little something I wrote in 2010….. thought I would share….

I believe God has shown me something, and I think it needs to be shared. I think maybe just maybe the reason we have so many divorces is because we are not becoming “friends” first.

Think about it, we meet someone, we find them attractive and the first thing we women seem to want to do is jump into a relationship. We are longing to be loved, and to gain emotional fulfillment. What we need to realize is everything we are looking for that man to do for us, God is sitting there saying what about me! I love you! And yet we have a tendency to look for love in all the wrong places. And for some of us, who maybe our own biological father’s were not in our lives the way God intended them to be, we go off looking for that “fatherly” figure, in our lives…which is a HUGE mistake!

We tend to go with the flow of what is “normal”, and then we find ourselves sleeping with that person. To me, thinking back on my own life I believe sleeping with a person only complicates things. Makes you connect to that person in a way that should never happen with out first becoming that person’s spouse. Only because it creates a bond, that no matter how hard you try can never be broken. I also think once we have sex with that person we become blinded by the lust that causes us to think we know them. Bottom line is we are now blinded, unable to see who or what that person really is.

Then we may even go as far as getting married to that person because we feel that we know them so well, and are in love with them so much again not even becoming their friend first. Month’s maybe even years go by and you realize you don’t even know the person you are now sharing your life with. And at some point you may even say to yourself, “had I known this, I don’t think I would have married them!”

I can honestly say, I’m guilty of this, not creating a friendship first. I wish I knew then what I know now! God is definitely teaching so much about me and showing me things about myself that are not of God and if I ever decide to enter into another relationship it definitely will have to start out as a friendship. We all make mistakes, the most important thing is we learn from those mistakes and try our hardest to never repeat the mistake again.

So women, guard your hearts, your mind and your body! If you meet someone and think you would like to date that person, become their friend first. Get to know the person. Let that person become your best friend, set limits with that person. If we want to be the best partner/wife that we can be we must first become friends! We must learn to respect ourselves first then respect them, with both our words and actions.
