As you all know by now, the 13th Annual BET Celebration of Gospel was filmed last week at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles. The show doesn’t air until April 7, 2013, however, for those who can’t wait, we have a recap of the performances for you guys! Comedian and Radio Personality Steve Harvey was brought on board to host the ceremony for a 13th consecutive year, much to the audiences’ pleasure as he delivered his infamous jokes as only he could.

Opening the show was Tye Tribbett with his latest single, “Same God”, giving a high-energy performance that we’ve all come to expect from the singer. Following up was Anthony Brown and Group Therapy performing their hit-song “Testimony” in their first appearance ever on the Celebration of Gospel stage. Next you will see a combination of Gospel and R&B as Sunday Best Winner Le’Andria Johnson took the stage for a duet with R&B crooner Tyrese to perform Donnie Hathaway’s “A Song For You”. Then R&B Diva Tamar Braxton sang her heart out for a cover of Walter Hawkins’ “Be Greatful”.

Next, in what some claim to be the best performance of the night, Kierra Sheard teamed up with her mother, Karen Clark-Sheard for an amazing medley. The performance starts with Kierra singing her single, “You Are” then Karen comes out to sing The Clark Sisters’ “Hallelujah”. Another surprise collaboration of the night was Donnie McClurkin and Anita Baker singing “Ain’t No Need To Worry”. Also, Israel Houghton performed his chart-topping hit song “It’s Not Over” and Pastor Charles Jenkins shared the stage with Jessica Reedy, Isaac Carree, Da’ Truth and Canton Jones for the all-star remix of “Awesome”.

Then came the amazing tribute to Rev. James Cleveland, led by his protégé Kurt Carr. Joining Carr on the stage to help celebrate the “King of Gospel” was Joshua Rogers, Rance Allen, Donnie McClurkin and Dr. Bobby Jones. Finally, Tamela Mann led the entire theater into worship with her larger-than-life song, “Take Me To The King” followed by Yolanda Adams, Pastor Shirley Caesar and Dorinda Clark-Cole closing out the show with their stellar performances!

To see what else happens on the 2013 Celebration of Gospel you’ll have to tune in when it airs. You don’t want to miss out as this guarantees to be the best one yet.
