Although this is Damieon’s first project, he is certainly no stranger to music. That’s apparent from the first song on the new release, “You Are Good”. A song brimming with gratitude, the track finds the psalmist singing with passion and praise. Speaking of praise, one of the most popular cuts on the record is the up-tempo, celebratory, “My Praise”. With the backing of a dynamic praise team, “My Praise” is the perfect Sunday morning service opener. “You Alone Are God” is a beautiful ballad sung directly to the Lord and those who didn’t think they would make it will enjoy the inspiring tune, “I’m Still Here”. Superior production and songwriting highlight this artist’s musical introduction to the Gospel music industry.
Dameion was a little hesitant in stepping out into a solo ministry, but he felt compelled to share the songs that God had given him with others. “I never really had aspirations of being a solo artist,” shares Dameion. “But I realized that God had given me a platform and was birthing songs in me. I knew I had to get them out. I knew that God wanted me to get my music out there as a solo artist. I also knew I had a story to tell.”
The CD’s title, I Believe, is not only the hook to “You Alone Are God”, but it’s a declaration of faith. Dameion encourages every believer to hold on to their faith in spite of what it looks like. “I named the project I Believe because of my own story,” he says. “My wife and I had been married for 10 years and were unable to have children. Even after 8 and 9 years in our waiting season, we chose to remain faithful to God, still serving in church. I continued to lead praise and worship like it had already had happened. We now have 3 children including our miracle twin girls. Also, my father, who had been addicted to heroin for 30 years and was in and out of jail for a large part of my life, eventually gave his life to the Lord and ended up pastoring before he passed last year. I encourage God’s people to believe despite the circumstances. I am a witness that God will come through.”
A native Washingtonian, his upbringing was quite challenging. It wasn’t until he entered college that his life changed. A graduate of the renowned Duke Ellington School of the Arts and music major at the University of the District of Columbia, he was introduced to the Lord and turned his life over to Him. Shortly after, an R&B group he was singing with had an opportunity for a major record deal, but it didn’t feel right to Dameion. He left the group and has been singing for the Lord ever since. He’s been a musician, choir director and minister of music. Also, he is currently the Praise and Worship Leader for International Bible Way Organization. Under the leadership of Dr. Bonnie Hunter, Dameion has held multiple roles at his church including worship leader, elder and now assistant pastor. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and is currently a music teacher in the DC Public School System.
