Patrick Dopson has been involved in music ministry since the age of seven when he started playing the drums and singing in the church his father pastored in historic Selma, Alabama. As a young child, Patrick knew that his destiny would be ministering to others through music. He would sit for hours on the front pew of the church and be captivated with every detail as his mom led choir rehearsals. He grew up listening to gospel artists such as The Winans, Commissioned, John P. Kee, Marvin Sapp, Gary Oliver, Fred Hammond, Shirley Caesar and mass choirs, which have all influenced his musical DNA.
At the age of 19, Patrick married his wife, Christina. A few months after they were married, he accepted his first full-time position as worship leader at a large multi-cultural church in Alabama. Since then, he has served in that role under various ministries including Bishop Gary Oliver’s Tabernacle of Praise in Fort Worth, TX. Now Patrick and his wife Christina along with their son, Garion, reside in Montgomery, Alabama, where his ministry is now based. His father pastors
ChristWay City Church where Patrick also serves as Director of Worship.
Patrick’s very heart and soul is to proclaim the goodness of God through music. He was a writer and contributor on Fred Hammond’s only GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING album ‘Free To Worship’. His first radio single, ‘KEEP ME’, released on his Oilonit Music label, became a Billboard Gospel hit and even received a Stellar nomination for Song of The Year. In addition, his title track, ‘OPEN THE HEAVENS’, was selected by Maranatha as one of the Top 25 Gopsel Songs of 2012.
He has had the privilege of ministering alongside a wide variety of artists and pastors such as Marvin Sapp, Oliver, Michael English and Pastor Clint Brown. He ministered at Bishop T.D. Jakes’ Potter’s House to open Hammond’s Free to Worship live DVD recording and was featured on a 25 city “25th Anniversary Tour” with Hammond as well. He has also shared the stage with prominent artists such as Donnie McClurkin, Israel Houghton, Martha Munizzi, Ruben Studdard, Yolanda Adams, David & Tamela Mann (stars of Tyler Perry’s ‘Meet the Browns’), Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Daryl Coley and others. He has appeared on TV internationally on TBN, DAYSTAR, IMPACT NETWORK and ATLANTA LIVE.
Patrick’s style has an urban / contemporary gospel flavor. God has placed a special anointing for praise and worship on his life to tear down racial, cultural, generational, and denominational barriers. He delivers a powerful uncompromising message to people both in and outside of the church, using his stylish, popular sound and riveting worshipful live concerts. Patrick founded his own publishing and record label, Oilonit Music, in 2003. His debut album, Open the Heavens, produced by Noel Hall and himself, was released in May of 2012. His debut release garnered four Stellar Award nominations, 2 Dove nominations, and a place on Sony / Verity Records WOW GOSPEL 2013 CD & DVD releases. Patrick received his first Stellar Award in 2014.
