Having met in the early 1990’s as fellow students at the prestigious Booker T. Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts in Dallas, Butler formulated the group now known as Levi. They went on to set the music industry on fire with their debut hit “Set Me Free.” The song garnered them their first Grammy Award nomination and multiple Stellar Awards.
Not straying too far from what has worked for him, On Purpose, is more of what cemented Butler and Levi as mainstays. From the powerhouse first single, “Best Praise,” featuring long time Levi member Candy West and Sunday Best Season four winner Amber Bullock. Now available on all digital platforms, the single takes you right to Sunday morning praise and worship. With dynamic tracks like “Heaven’s Rain,” a duet with Jonathan Butler and “Nobody Like Our God,” there is a lot to explore on the project. Other highlights include the album’s title track, “On Purpose” with featured soloist Tamela Mann and a special spoken word from Bishop T.D. Jakes and the sonorous ballad “You Call Me.”
Equal parts Gospel, Worship leader, R&B and pop, Butler has gone on to become a highly credited and accomplished producer and songwriter. With heavyweight credits under his belt such as his work with Marvin Sapp,Yolanda Adams, Smokie Norful, Kirk Franklin, Tamela Mann and more Butler establishes himself as a major influence in Gospel music.
Butler is also adding author to his growing list of accomplishments.”This year he will coincide the album release with his first book, “Born Identity” which offers fans a second tool to understanding and reaching their divine purpose.”
