Motown Gospel’s Newest Artist, Me’Kayla, Releases Debut EP, ‘Prelude’

Motown Gospel’s newest vocal sensation, Me’Kayla, has just released her debut EP, entitled Prelude.This six song EP showcases her wide range of vocal ability and style that is sure to emerge her in to the lane of industry vocal powerhouses. Within this body of music there are also special guest features including Donald Lawrence on piano, The HamilTones, ChurchPpl, May & Them Pups, and J. Ivy. Listeners will also get to hear a continued collaboration with Sir the Baptist who serves as one of the EP’s producers.

“Me’Kayla is a once-in-a-generation talent,” says EJ Gaines, Executive Director of Motown Gospel. “It would take a lifetime for most people to learn what has come quite naturally for her. She represents the next era of versatile, powerhouse vocalists in gospel music, while simultaneously being poised to expand into broader areas of pop, jazz, and R&B. When asked about the release, Me’Kayla says, “Prelude embodies the culmination of my spiritual journey and musical aspirations. As a prelude, it marks the inception of a deeply personal and transformative chapter in my life. Each track serves as a testament to my faith, offering a platform to express my beliefs and unwavering hope in God with the world. This EP symbolizes not only my artistic talent but also my commitment to spreading messages of hope, love, and divine inspiration.”

Overall, Me’Kayla hopes that her music connects with the younger generation from all walks of life and lead people to God. She says, “I’m hoping that people who listen to my music will find solace, inspiration, and a deeper relationship with the Lord. My ultimate goal is to touch hearts, uplift spirits, and lead listeners closer to God. My prayer is that this music will instill a sense of hope, encouragement, and faith in those who may be searching for meaning and purpose in their lives.”

At just 20 years old, Me’Kayla is poised to revolutionize the Gospel music landscape with her unique blend of a remarkable voice and soulful melodies from a Gen-Z perspective. Hailing from a small town with big dreams, Me’Kayla’s passion for music ignited at an early age, drawing inspiration from the rich traditions of Gospel, Jazz and Blues, while infusing it with the vibrancy and relatability of her generation.

Kim Burrell discovered her on Instagram, and called Harry Connick, Jr.  to rave about her. Connick then reached out to a top executive at Motown Gospel, who promptly signed her while she was still in the 12th grade.

The Tennessee State University co-ed was a majorette dancer in the Aristocrat of Bands, as well as a featured vocalist on the bands’ GRAMMY-award winning LP, The Urban Hymnal, which won Best Roots Gospel Album at the 65th GRAMMYS®. Produced by Sir The Baptist, Aristocrat of Bands is the first collegiate marching band and the first HBCU marching band to ever win the accolade.
