Pastor Winans delivers his testimony in court
It looks like justice will be served for Pastor Marvin Winans, of Perfecting Church in Detroit, Michigan, as the three men accused of assaulting and carjacking him all had to appear in court. Pastor Winans identified Montoya Givens, 20, Christopher Moorehead, 20 and Brian K. Young, 18, of Macomb County’s Clinton Township as the culprits responsible for the crime. He was required to give his testimony of what happened on the day of his assault in front of a judge, who will determine on a later date if the case will go to trial. All three defendants could possibly receive a sentence of life in prison if found guilty.
For those who missed it, Pastor Winans was at a Citgo Gas Station in Detroit when four, only three were caught, young men followed him to his car and assaulted him while pumping gas. While in court he said, “At that point, all three of them began to pummel me, striking me and pulling me away from the truck, and then, when they threw me to the ground they began to kick me.” The attackers robbed him of his money, credit cards and Rolex, while one drove off in his deep purple 2012 Infiniti QX56 SUV.
Givens, Moorehead and Young
Clearly not broken by the situation, Pastor Winans decided to take this as an initiative to bring change among the youth in Detroit. He told the press before his service on that following Sunday, “The city is fixable, and it starts with the men of the city, in particular the black men,” he said. “And I … want to urge all of you men who hear me to go and get your sons. I’m not bitter. I’m not upset. I’m saddened by what has taken place. But I’m also inspired. We have to make a change in this city.”
Let’s all keep Pastor Winans in our prayer at this time because he may say that he’s not upset or bitter by the situation, but being robbed in a city that you call home is bound to have its traumatic effects. I still question what happened to the fourth person involved? It appears that the other three must believe in the street code of “No Snitching”. Hopefully they all get the punishment they deserve for the crime.
