Jonathan Nelson To Perform on BET's "Celebration of Gospel"

Top Ten Stellar Award Winner and His Dynamic Choir, Purpose, Will Perform On 11th Annual “Celebration of Gospel” Special Sunday, January 30, 2011 @ 8:00 p.m. on Black Entertainment Television

Stellar Award winning gospel star Jonathan Nelson is riding into the New Year of 2011 expecting great things in his life and career. On the heels of his 2008 smash “My Name Is Victory” that peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart, Nelson has cracked the Top 10 again with “Expect The Great,” another smash. “The song says the blessing is on you,” says Richmond, VA Radio One Praise 104.7 FM program director, Reggie B. “It’s a great record to play that is upbeat and makes you feel good when you hear it and gives you hope that your blessing is on the way!”

Nelson and his group, Purpose, perform the dynamic song on Black Entertainment Television’s (BET) forthcoming TV special, “Celebration of Gospel.” The 11th annual program hosted by funnyman Steve Harvey is television’s most watched gospel program of the year.  Last year’s 10th anniversary episode netted 2.6 million viewers, a 40% increase of the prior year. This year’s show promises to top last year’s with performances from Whitney Houston & Kim Burrell, Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary and Faith Evans alongside Jonathan Nelson & Purpose, among other who’s who of the gospel and R&B worlds.

Nelson’s sophomore CD, Better Days (Integrity Music), recently debuted at #1 on Jet Magazine’s Top Gospel CDs sales chart and #4 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart. The 10-song CD of faith-inspired tunes was produced by Nelson with Grammy Award winning producer Aaron Lindsey. “I’m so thankful to God and to all of my supporters for helping  make this new project so successful and well-received,” says Nelson who also wrote Donald Lawrence’s classic tune “Healed” and Youth for Christ’s “The Struggle Is Over,” another #1 hit.  “I wish you all a Happy New Year. Although, this is a huge milestone, the journey continues.  I Expect the Great for myself and for you.”
