James C. Birdsong, Jr., Member of the Famed Birdsong Family, Inspires with a Story of Overcoming in New Book, The Best Is Yet To Come: A Testimony of One Young Man’s Redemption

If the last name Birdsong sounds familiar, it’s no surprise. Rev. James C. Birdsong, Jr., pastor, motivational speaker, songwriter, aspiring Gospel singer, entrepreneur, children’s advocate and author of The Best Is Yet To Come: A Testimony of One Young Man’s Redemption hails from a lineage of movers and shakers. His cousins, Cindy Birdsong, Edwin Birdsong and Otis Lee Birdsong all made their marks in the world of entertainment. Cindy Birdsong, originally known as an R&B singer and a member of Patti LaBelle & The Bluebells and Diana Ross & The Supremes, launched her own successful solo career in the 80s and is now a minister. Edwin Birdsong rose to fame as a keyboardist and an artist during the disco era, playing for notables like Stevie Wonder and Roy Ayers and earning a GRAMMY Award. Otis Lee Birdsong made a name for himself on the basketball court, an All-star playing in the NBA for 12 seasons, seven with the New Jersey Nets. Now continuing that lineage, James C. Birdsong, Jr. steps into the spotlight as he shares his empowering life story in his brand new book, The Best Is Yet To Come: A Testimony of One Young Man’s Redemption, published by T&J Publishers in Atlanta, Georgia. The book is available at all major bookstores and retailers nationwide and online including Amazon.

James initially had no plans to write a book, but ultimately, he felt compelled to share his testimony. “God placed it in my spirit,” says Birdsong. “For years, people have been telling me that I have a testimony and that I need to share it. I want to encourage people – despite their age, gender or nationality – that no matter what happens they can make it. I want them to look at my story and see that if someone like me can have a disability and overcome it, they can too.”

Through a profound retelling of his life story, Birdsong documents his multiple diagnoses as a child and resulting learning disability. He also speaks of his miraculous healing that came through the power of God working through his mother. The autobiography details his life growing up in Richmond, CA, his relationships with influential people in his life, his parents’ divorce and how his life was affected by the family split. In addition, he takes the reader on a journey through the history of the renowned Birdsong family and the struggles and triumphs he experienced in finding his own voice. Like a time machine, Birdsong takes the reader back, allowing them to experience exactly what the times were like in American history. But even more than his uncanny ability to set the reader in the scene, he reminds us of the power of redemption and forgiveness. The Best Is Yet To Come: A Testimony of One Young Man’s Redemption is a story filled with inspiration and encouragement.

It’s that gift of encouragement that makes him passionate about helping youth. He desires to instill in them a belief that they can reach their greatest potential. A community trailblazer, he’s been awarded with proclamations and accolades from mayors and governors. He is an inductee on the Wall of Tolerance at the Civil Rights Memorial Center in Montgomery, Alabama, and a recipient of the Black Essence Award for his accomplishments in the Gospel music industry. He has also been recognized by members of the United States Congress and has been a nominee for inclusion in the 2003 57th edition of Marquis Who’s Who in America, a world-renowned autobiographical reference book. As a member of the Gospel music industry, he is a member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America Atlanta Chapter, SAGMA (Stellar Awards) and the Gospel Music Association (GMA Dove Awards). In addition, he is a member of the NAACP through the Cobb County Branch in Marietta, Georgia. He inspires through humanitarian efforts and uplifting the less fortunate. These efforts have caught the attention and respect of politicians, community and entertainment leaders and luminaries in the African American church world. He is the son of Rev. James C. Birdsong, Sr., known for fighting for civil and disability rights in the City of Richmond, and Belinda Germany-Birdsong, the daughter of a World War II veteran and the local chapter President of the National Council Negro of Women.

In addition to supporting The Best Is Yet To Come: A Testimony of One Young Man’s Redemption with an upcoming book tour, Birdsong will be working on a debut Gospel release soon.
